BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, (and directions to the trailhead caused some to miss the December hike because Google directions to Cottonwood Campground are wrong), so we have changed the meet-up location…see below. The hike to Sombrero Peak is a long one…approximately 10 miles in and out (1548’ elevation gain/loss). To reach the summit, where beautiful views await, requires some boulder climbing. This is a physically challenging hike because of the distance and bouldering.

• Take I-8 to Exit 65/CA-94/Boulevard. Travel south about 1/2 mile to Old Hwy 80. Turn left/east on Old Hwy 80. Go 500 ft. to meet at Wisteria Candy Cottage at 39961 Old Hwy 80 in Boulevard at 8:00 am. From there, we will caravan east on Old Hwy 80 to McCain Valley Rd. We will then travel slowly north (30 mph) for 10 miles on a grated, gravel road that leads to Cottonwood Campground. We will park at a campsite (there may be a Parking Fee) and will begin the hike from there.
