FAQ'S

See below for answers to our most frequently asked questions!

What COVID-19 safety measures are currently in place for onsite field trips?

In accordance with the Imperial County Department of Public Health, we still strongly recommend all visitors to continue wearing masks while indoors and ask that individual choices are respected.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my field trip?

If you need to reschedule or cancel your tour, please do so at least one week in advance. No-shows and last minute cancellations (less than 48 hours) will void their 25% deposit as stated in our cancellation/reservation policy.

Are there resources available to help me prepare my students for our field trip?

Yes! Please visit our Virtual Classroom to join IVDM's staff of Curators, Educators, and Specialists on a "Traveling Field Trip" across Southern California as we explore and celebrate the history and heritage of the Kumeyaay people. Field Trip lesson plans are also made available upon request.

Is there a minimum number of students per visit?

The minimum number of students is 10, if there are fewer students, the group leader must commit to paying for the minimum number of students.

Can we bring chaperones?

Yes, we require at least 1 teacher or chaperone per 10 students. We request that chaperones do not bring along other children or babies in strollers to help keep their active participation in supervising the field trip students.

How much does a field trip cost?

Admission is $7 per student, teachers and chaperones are given free admission in exchange for their active participation in supervising students.

How do we pay for a field trip?

The remaining balance after your booking deposit is accepted upon arrival on the date of your field trip. We accept cash and checks, checks should be made payable to the Imperial Valley Desert Museum. We can also invoice your school or organization if necessary.

Where can my students eat lunch?

The Imperial Valley Desert Museum currently does not have the capability to provide lunch: teachers, students, and chaperones are encouraged to provide their own lunches. School groups have designated outdoor or indoor lunch areas to enjoy lunch (weather permitting). Lunches can be stored inside the museum or left on the bus during field trips.

Does the museum have a gift shop?

Yes! We stock many items geared towards all ages- some of the children's items we feature are stuffed animals, bracelets, tumble stones, books, and much more! Our gift shop items vary in prices to accommodate students.

Does the museum offer classroom visits?

Yes! We offer a History on the Go! option if teachers cannot bring their students to the museum. Please contact our Education Coordinator for more details.
