Jacumba Hikers: Wind Caves-Domelands (Canyoneers Hike)
We hope you will consider joining the San Diego Natural History Museum Canyoneer Hiking Group on a hike to the Wind Caves and Domelands. Mike Rood is hosting the hike for the Canyoneers. You will have a choice of two hikes. One is a difficult 5 mile hike to the Wind Caves and the other is a more difficult 8 mile hike that will go to the Wind Caves, Domelands, and a slot canyon.
For more details, go on-line to see the SD Natural History Museum Canyoneer Hike Schedule or see directions below to just meet up with the Canyoneers at 9:00 AM the day of the hike.
Meet at 9:00 AM at the Coyote Mountain Wilderness Kiosk on S2 near Ocotillo. Directions: Take I-8 to Ocotillo. Turn north on S2 and go 7.1 miles to the Kiosk and dirt parking area on the right. (If you get to the Border Patrol Check, you went too far...turn around and go back!) At the Kiosk, hikers will consolidate into high clearance or 4 wheel drive vehicles to continue 2 miles to the trailhead.
Please Note: While we do our best to accurately describe the hikes and their difficulty levels, please know your own limits and capabilities! A hike that is easy or moderate for some may be difficult or extreme for others, depending on hiking experience, skill level, and physical capabilities. Also, please be prepared! Comfortable hiking shoes with good traction, 2-3 liters of water, a hat, and a backpack (to carry your own water, snacks, emergency/First-Aid supplies, and other gear) are essential items on these challenging hikes. Hiking poles may be helpful. No dogs allowed!
