At the Imperial Valley Desert Museum, we believe that learning comes best through experience and there is no better place to learn than our own backyard. The desert has a rich history and an astounding echological system. By taking the time to explore, examine and appreciate the desert, a connection is made between the hiker and the desert that is unique to each individual. Come experience the Southern California deserts on one of the following hikes:
a three out of five jalopeno group - these hikes are spicy
These hikes focus on the Jacumba area where high elevations and diverse terrain are par for the course. This hiking group never uses a trail, so please know your limits and pack accordingly. Email the hike coordinator for a schedule.
a one out of five jalopeno group - a nice meander
A moderate group open to all skills and ages. Bring the usual: daypack, lunch, broad brimmed hat, hiking boots, lots of water, maybe a windbreaker or sweater. Please, no portable music players. Email for details, using the hiking group name as the subject heading.

Canyoneers are San Diego Natural History Museum volunteers trained to teach appreciation of plants and animals in southern California. Check their schedule of hikes.
